Taking Charge of His Health: One Cancer Survivor's Resolution
By Emily Lansdell http://www.jacksonsun.com/health/200312_cover.shtml
Seven years ago, Lynn Jackson was told he had 18 months to live. Today, he's still very much alive after taking a drastically different approach to healing. It's this approach, says the 45-year old Jackson man, that saved his life. "I had stomach problems for three to four months, but my doctors were always treating me for gastric acid," Jackson says. "Every few weeks I would go back and they would try a new medicine." After Jackson's frustration and stomach trouble escalated, he finally saw a specialist who gave him the bad news. Jackson had three large, malignant tumors in his stomach and was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. His doctors only gave him one option, he says, which was exploratory surgery. "I asked questions," Jackson says. "I'm the kind of person who wants to know what's going on." His questions and inconclusive answers from his doctors led to Jackson's decision to walk away from traditional medicine and try another approach. As a religious man, he went to the men in his church and asked for their prayers in finding a solution. "For some reason, when I was reading the Bible, I opened up to Leviticus 11 where it talks about what to eat and what not to eat," Jackson says. "Usually, I don't pay attention to this stuff, but I had asked the Lord to guide me." Jackson's journey led him to call his cousin in Chicago, whom he knew was experimenting with some revolutionary concepts in healthcare. "I thought she was a nut, but I also thought she might could help," Jackson recalls. "She put together a package of things for me and sent them overnight mail the same day." Included in this package was something Jackson calls a "zapper," - an electronic box that helped to reduce pain. Jackson also went to see a biochemist, who prescribed an entirely new regimen of eating habits, and vitamin and herbal supplements. After five weeks of trying these methods, Jackson could finally get out of the bed and move around, he says. With his returned mobility, he went back to his doctor and discovered that the malignancy in his tumors was almost completely gone. After a half dozen rounds of chemotherapy at a Memphis clinic, so were the tumors. Jackson refused to take any more chemotherapy, he adds, even though his physician recommended it. Still cancer free and happy to talk about it, Jackson considers his new lease on life as an opportunity to educate others about the benefits of a naturopathic or holistic approach to their health. "God allowed this to happen to me, God allowed me to survive, and now God is allowing me to talk about it," Jackson says. Jackson became so convicted about overcoming his cancer, that he now sells health supplements and gives free seminars to churches, groups and individuals. During these seminars, he gives people important information about taking control of their health the way he says God intended. "The main thing is to build our immune systems back up," Jackson says. "If we build our immune system up, these diseases can't attack us. They may try to attack us, but they can't win." Diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and even the common cold are caused by a compromised immune system, Jackson says. How does it become compromised? Jackson says that our nation's diet is literally destroying our immune system. "I have studied it extensively and discovered that almost everything we eat today is full of growth hormones, steroids and antibiotics," Jackson says. "That tears our immune system down." For instance, Jackson says, a chicken raised using traditional methods would normally take about three months to reach five pounds. In most mass production chicken houses, chickens are raised in half the time because of growth hormones and steroids. "We should be eating vegetables out the garden and farm-raised meats," Jackson says. In addition, he recommends drinking and using water that is not full of chlorine and fluoride, which also break down the immune system. "Fluoride is used as a pesticide, and is now banned in Finland, Holland, Chile and Japan," Jackson says. "Chlorine also has antibiotics, which kill both good and bad bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that 53 million Americans are unknowingly drinking tap water that is polluted by feces, radiation or other things that contaminate the water." According to Jackson, the consumption of toxins found in American water, food and medications is the main reason that despite millions of dollars in medical research, America continues to be the leader in diseases such as cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and many others. The way to turn this cycle around, he says, is through a new diet, a new approach to solving healthcare problems, and an aggressive plan to replenish the body with what it needs. "Using supplements and a good diet, we have to put good enzymes and good bacteria back into our body," Jackson says. "And using a regimen of herbal remedies, we must detox our body and especially our colon, which probably contains parasites." Dr. Ross Anderson, a parasitic infection specialist in Hollywood, Fla., found that in recent medical studies, approximately 85 percent of North American adults have at least one form of parasites living in their bodies. What this means for most of us, Jackson says, is that parasites are literally destroying us from the inside out. Some common symptoms of parasite infestation include bowel problems, achy joints and muscles, skin problems, difficulty sleeping, allergies, chronic fatigue, nervousness, forgetfulness, and excess weight. "The body has an amazing ability to heal itself if it has the right tools," Jackson says. "It's our responsibility to give it the right tools." Jackson admits that naturopathic medicine can't cure all ills. He still believes that traditional physicians are necessary to diagnose and cure problems that can't be managed any other way. "If I'm in a car wreck or have a heart attack, I want to see a doctor," Jackson says. "But their methods normally address the symptoms and not always the root of the problem." That's why Jackson suggests that it requires both - a good physician and a lifestyle that prevents and heals disease. "I know this way works because I'm here," he stresses. "This is your body and this is your health. You've got to take hold of it. You can't depend on someone else."
Did You Know? • Every year, the average American consumes 150 pounds of sugar, 566 cans of soft drinks, 45 large bags of potato chips, 120 orders of fries, 190 candy bars, and 150 slices of pizza. • Diabetes has doubled in the U.S. in the last five years. The average American takes in 156 pounds of sugar each year. Sugar is added to almost everything we eat. • Much of our U.S. soil is so depleted that our farm crops depend entirely on the chemical fertilizers they are fed to grow. That means that most of the food we eat is devoid of virtually all the trace minerals we need for survival. For instance, it takes 8 cups of today's supermarket spinach to give you the same iron you'd get from just one cup of spinach grown 50 years ago. • 60 percent of American's dairy cows are affected with the leukemia virus. There are 52 different antibiotics found in milk that can break down our immune system. • As a result of chlorinated/fluorinated/treated water, antibiotics and pesticides in our food, good bacteria have been virtually eliminated from our diets. • Man is the only animal that cooks food to be eaten - cooking destroys live enzymes. As a result, virtually every American has an enlarged pancreas. • Prescription drugs are the fourth leading cause of death in America. There are more than 2 million drug reactions annually in the United States. More than 100,000 of these reactions are fatal. (Information provided by Lynn Jackson with Healing America, Inc..
